AL TALH DISTRICT, SA'DAH, YEMEN, 15 MAY, 2015

Yahya lost his sister to an airstrike that also destroyed part of his family’s home in al-Talh, north of the city of Sa’dah, on May 15, 2015. Sa’dah and the surrounding areas have borne the brunt of the Saudi-led coalition’s aerial bombardment since 2015.

“It was 11:30 p.m., the coalition jets were striking nearby areas when suddenly the front portion of our house was hit. My sister Jamilah was unfortunately in a room which was in the targeted area of the house, she was killed on impact. My brother was injured, and my sister’s children were left traumatized seeing their mother and uncle like that.”
- YAHYA, 50

“I would rather not speak more about this painful incident, which changed our lives and left us — a family of 20 — displaced for two years.

We eventually moved back to our home, and we currently live in the part of it that is still standing. We hope to be able to rebuild it as our area is not currently being targeted.”
