On September 21, 2016, a Saudi-led coalition airstrike hit a residential area in al-Hudaydah City known as al-Hunoud, killing 24 people and wounding about 100 others.

Bakri, 17, is the only member of his family to survive the airstrike, which killed his father, mother, and his three sisters. He now earns a living making deliveries on his motorcycle.

“I was the second of four siblings, living with my parents in a humble house. Then, all of a sudden, I became a man without a family. Just like that!”
- Bakri, 17

Hamadah, 27, and his family were holding a funeral gathering when the airstrike hit. They had a a tent set up in front of their house for the occasion. Four of his relatives were killed in the air strike, and a number of others were wounded.

“It was 08:00 p.m. on the first day of a three-day funeral gathering when the airstrike hit a nearby house, just few meters away. Everybody who was sitting beside me was killed. I sustained serious shrapnel wounds to my legs, neck, and jaw. My family and the whole neighborhood seemed to be holding a never ending wake.”
