AL-TUHAYTA DISTRICT, HUDAYDAH, YEMEN, JULY 2, 2018
Abdullah Salman and his family of seven sons and seven daughters were displaced from their home in al-Tuhayta District of al-Hudaydah Governorate after their home was damaged by coalition airstrikes. Abdullah says that the loss of their home, and the fact that they are no longer able to afford basic necessities, is creating an immense psychological strain on the whole family.
“On July 2, 2018, at exactly 2 p.m., the coalition jets started to bomb the nearby farmlands. Our house was not directly hit, but the shrapnel from the missiles damaged the structure of the house.
We lost all the windows, some walls, all the doors, the entire living room, along with the yard and the kitchen. We had to run to save our children’s lives, we didn't even have time to pack necessities like food or clothing.”
“We are currently living in Zabid City, where we are sharing one house with three other families who were also displaced with us after our whole neighborhood was destroyed.
We are living under very poor conditions, which have worsened since my son — the only breadwinner of the family — got injured at work and broke both his legs, leaving us with no source of income whatsoever.”
